Real Foods News, Issue #1 New Coffees; Create a Dialog; Recipes for Blanco and the World October 06, 2006 |

Getting Back on TrackThis summer has been quite an adventure at Real Foods. The heat seemed relentless this year, and with it came voltage problems from the electric company. I learned something new: Low voltage will burn up electronic and refrigeration equipment. We lost 4 refrigeration units, including our big produce cooler, the cappucino machine, and our small computer up front. The AC compressors were wacky for a bit, the cash register system is pretty much kaput, and we had to have the walk-in cooler and freezer worked on. All the coolers and freezers have been repaired/replaced now, but if it seems like our budget for ordering product is extra tight, that's cause IT IS. We're still working on replacing the computers and cash register system. As always, your continued patience is much appreciated.
New CoffeesReal Foods has recently changed coffee vendors. You know, of course, we are committed to carrying only organic, bird-friendly, Fair-Trade coffee beans. And we try to do businss as "local" as possible. Well, coffee doesn't grow in Texas, but Avi Katz, of Houston's Katz Coffee, sure does a great job roasting it. And he's made us such a great deal, we were able to lower our price to you by $1.50 per pound. Come on in the store and ask for a taste. It's delicious!
We Asked and You RespondedOur new House Blend coffee that Avi puts together for us is SO-O-O good, it deserves a special title. And since you're part of the Real Foods Family, we asked you to help us come up with a name. We received an amazing response: 31 suggestions. Now, we want to ask your help again. Our committee has narrowed the field to 4 names, and we'd like you to vote for your favorite.

OK NowIf you just cast your vote (and I hope you did), you may have noticed the new and improved, nifty-keen, Real Foods website. Hope you like it; I've been working hard.
Please go back and look around, if you haven't already.
You'll notice on the left side of the page (after the "Vote" button, which you've already done, right?) there's a button that says "Healthy Living." Click on it, and you'll be directed to the BLOG for Real Foods Market. I use the blogs for updates in the health and nutrition field, sustainable living, and political health news. Well, occasionally I rant, but you know me, sometimes I just can't help myself :-) Healthy Living Blog is easy to navigate - pretty much self-explanatory.
See it now at
Also, please note there's a link at the end of each article called "Comments." This is for you to add YOUR comments to an article, if you like. We CAN make this a dialog :-)
Collect Your Best RecipesThere is another new section (still working on it; I have SO much SPARE time for my new addiction- the internet) that you may want to help on, as well. http://www.real-foods.net/healthy-recipes.html About halfway down the page, there's a link to a form designed to allow you to share your favorite healthy recipes with the world. And it really IS the world. We already have a contribution from a reader in the UK. Real Foods is international. Guess that's enough for now, so til next time...
