How the FDA says "Merry Christmas" December 19, 2007 |
| Hello In this issue:
We've already lost raw almonds (the FDA says that ALL almonds must be "pasteurized" by spraying them with jet fuel that is so toxic, it was made illegal to use in race cars). Now the FDA wants to irradiate all nutritional supplements to make you SAFE. Don't you feel better now? With herbs now also being considered for irradiation, it is useful to look at some research done on irradiated foods: (From the www.citizens.org web site) "A 1975 clinical study in India, which appeared in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, looked at 15 malnourished children who were fed either irradiated or non-irradiated food. Eighty percent of the children fed irradiated food developed a pre-cancerous chromosomal disorder called polyploidy. A more recent study on 70 students in China (Chinese Medical Journal, 1987) also showed an increased rate of chromosomal abnormalities. "In addition, the "unique radiolytic products" (URP's), or toxins, produced through irradiation include: known carcinogens such as formaldehyde (used in embalming) and naphthalene (used in moth repellents), and others. If this were not enough, essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fatty acids are also destroyed at varying levels." So let's destroy the nutrients in our nutritional supplements. Great Idea, FDA! Proper handling of dietary supplements under current good manufacturing practice is usually sufficient to ensure that they will not be subject to microbial contamination that presents any risk to the health of consumers of these products. It's said you should follow the money if you want to find out why something is happening. Well, I guess it is money, too, but for sure it's about the Dept of Energy reaching its goal of unloading radioactive waste: "It will fulfill the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) stated goal, through its Byproducts Utilization Program, to unload its stockpile of radioactive cesium 137 in order to drive Canadian cobalt 60 out of the market." (also from www.citizens.org) Remember that now, as it has been at every point in our nation's history, if it were not for the dedication of the few, the vast majority of us would not enjoy the rights and freedoms we do. Your voice is needed now to preserve our access to food and supplements free from irradiation. Please go to http://www.real-foods.net/fda-petition and sign the petition against the needless and dangerous irradiation of nutritional supplements.
(Much) Better news - Crissy from CKC Farms (the goat cheese lady) will be in the store this Friday from 1 to 5 PM for a "Cheese Tasting." We have been out of her wonderful cheeses because she JUST PLAIN RAN OUT. Party season, you know. She wasn't able to make our delivery last Friday, so to make it up to us, Crissy and her Mom are coming to Real Foods to give out samples. No worries - they're bringing some to sell, too. So if you've not yet tasted CKC Farms' feta, seasoned feta, Caprino, or her varieties of fresh Chevre (or even if you have), you are in for a treat! CKC has added a new "gift size" seasoned feta - only $10.
We still have some nice & healthy gift items available at Real Foods if you need to do some last minute shopping. And don't forget, we will be closed from Christmas Eve through New Year's as usual (that's December 24 - January 1). We will re-open on Wednesday, January 2nd). Be sure to stock up. Have a wonderful and safe holiday, and we'll see you at the store! Sherri And the Gang at Real Foods
