"Genetically Modified Organisms" are NOT the same thing as hybrids. Hybrids are created by mixing the pollens from two different (but usually similar) plants, the same sort of concept as marrying outside your tribe.
GMOs are created by inserting, or even "blasting" genetic information (most commonly transported by a virus), into DNA. And we don't yet know the consequences.
